Twinkle Twinkle

12th Dec 2025

In our topic this term called 'Twinkle Twinkle',  foundation stage have been learning all about light and dark. We have been learning about the differences between day and night, jobs that people do during the day and night-time, nocturnal and diurnal animals and sources of light used now and in the past.  During play we made star decorations, we also painted fireworks, practised our mark-making skills by creating star shaped patterns in the sand, we made 'Starry Night Sky' paintings like Van Gogh's and in the building corner we built a home for a nocturnal animal like the hedgehog to hibernate in for the winter. We talked about how the stars in the night sky make light and played with the space rocket in the small play corner.  At the water tray we used nets to catch star shaped letters and practised our letter sounds.  We also used a drawing programme on the ipad to make starry night sky pictures too. In the role-play corner we had a dark tent and we used lamps and glow sticks to make it brighter inside. We also talked about how some people work in the dark or at night and they need to wear reflective clothing to be seen, so we also dressed up as paramedics, fire-officers, police-officers, builders etc. We also discussed the importance of wearing reflective clothing ourselves if we are out walking in the dark.
